Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the things people usually want to know before starting a construction project.
Get in touchWhat clients typically ask us
We've gathered the questions that come up most often during initial conversations and throughout projects.
How do I get started with a construction project?
Reach out by phone or email to schedule an initial consultation. We'll discuss your goals, visit the site if needed, and talk through rough timelines and budget ranges. No commitment required at this stage — it's just a conversation to see if we're a good fit for what you need.
How long does a typical home construction project take?
It depends entirely on the scope. A full residential build usually takes 6 to 12 months from groundbreaking to move-in. Renovations vary widely — a bathroom might be 3 weeks, while a whole-house renovation could stretch to 4 or 5 months. We provide a projected timeline in our estimate, and we update you if anything changes.
What's included in your estimates?
Our estimates break down materials, labor, permits, and any subcontractor work. We try to be thorough so there aren't surprises later. If something is unclear or potentially variable (like discovering old wiring during a renovation), we'll flag it explicitly rather than burying it in fine print.
Do you handle permits and inspections?
Yes. We coordinate all necessary building permits with the City of Saskatoon and schedule required inspections throughout the project. You don't need to chase paperwork — that's part of what we mean by full-cycle service.
What areas do you serve?
We work primarily in Saskatoon and the surrounding region. For larger projects, we've traveled a bit further. If you're outside the city, mention your location when you contact us and we'll let you know if it's feasible.
How does payment work?
We typically structure payments in phases tied to project milestones — a deposit to begin, progress payments at defined stages, and a final payment upon completion. The exact breakdown depends on the project size. We accept checks, e-transfers, and bank transfers. Everything is outlined in the contract before we start.
What happens if the project goes over budget?
We work hard to prevent that through detailed planning upfront. But construction has variables — you might uncover unexpected issues in an older home, or you might decide mid-project to upgrade something. If costs are going to change, we discuss it with you first. No surprise invoices.
Can I live in my home during renovations?
Often, yes. It depends on the work. A kitchen gut-job might make the house pretty uncomfortable for a few weeks. Finishing a basement? Usually fine to stay. We'll tell you honestly whether it's practical to remain on-site or if you'd be happier staying elsewhere temporarily.
Do you provide warranties on your work?
We stand behind our craftsmanship. Specific warranty terms depend on the type of work — structural elements, roofing, interior finishing each have different considerations. We'll explain what's covered and for how long before the project starts.
What if I need to make changes after the project has started?
Changes happen. Sometimes you see a wall come down and realize you want something different. We accommodate modifications when possible, though they may affect the timeline and cost. We just ask that you communicate changes early so we can adjust plans rather than redo completed work.
How do you communicate during a project?
We keep it simple. Regular check-ins — usually weekly — plus updates whenever something significant happens. Phone, email, or in-person at the site, whatever works for you. You'll always know who to call if you have a question.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We carry liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage. We're happy to provide documentation if you need it for your records or your lender.
Still have questions?
We're happy to talk through the specifics of your project. Reach out and we'll get back to you promptly.
